Election roadmap delay to spark public doubt over govt’s intention: Fakhrul

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said that the people would raise their doubts over the intention of the interim government if it delays announcing the election roadmap.

“I hope that the interim government would take a prudent and sincere decision under its capable leadership to announce a roadmap for the election,” said Fakhrul, in a Facebook post on Tuesday, who is now undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bangkok.

He calls upon the countrymen not to miss the opportunities to turn the country into a truly democratic and accountable state

“After a major eye surgery, I have to refrain from air travel as advised by doctors. However, I am closely monitoring the political developments in Bangladesh and trying to come up with a positive outcome,” he said.

Expressing his optimism over a talk with the chief adviser on Monday, he said it is a visible progress for the democratic transition.

Claiming that the country incurred a huge loss over the past 15 years, he said, “We eagerly waiting for a desired reform and restoration of justice in the country.”

Democratic transition, justice and reform—these three key issues are not contradictory to each other and these should be done simultaneously to take the country forward, he said.

He also called upon the countrymen not to miss the opportunities to turn the country into a truly democratic and accountable state.
